Scenic Drives Around The Chiltern Hills

The Chiltern Hills is a chalk escarpment that falls across Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and of course, Buckinghamshire. Parts have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1965, and the entire range stretches over 72 km in a southwest to northeast diagonal.

The village of Marlow is a picturesque settlement with a charming route including much countryside along the A4155. Check out the Marlow Bridge on the way - it is an architectural marvel and the settlement’s most prominent landmark.

Around the village of Hambledon is an extremely beautiful area with stunning countryside comprised of hills and fields. With sheep, horses and deer a common sight, the picturesque green patchworked landscape gives you a lot to look at. Just make sure you pay attention when you are driving through the twisty narrow country lanes though!

The Hellfire Caves are a network of man-made chalk and flint caverns that stretch 250 metres under the ground and are located above the settlement of West Wycombe which can be reached via the A40. They are a spectacular sight and are famous for hosting the infamous Hellfire Club whose members included various important 18th-century figures such as William Hogarth, John Wilkes, Thomas Potter and John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. It was rumoured to involve many rumours of black magic and pagan practices.
