5 Ways to Prolong Your Car’s Life

Cars are expensive, so it makes sense to make them last as long as possible. There are a few ways to do this and often it is just a small change to how you treat your car to make it last much longer.
Regularly Clean Your Car
Dirt and contaminants can really wreak havoc on your vehicle. It contributes to the scratches and dulling of your exterior paint, which opens your vehicle up to further damage and rust. However, it’s not just the exterior of your vehicle that is damaged. The interior carpet will also become worn with dirt being ground into it.
Take the time to wash your vehicle’s exterior at least once a week, more often if you’re driving on salted or sanded roads. The interior should be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis, as well.
Get it Serviced
The best way to stay on top of issues with your vehicle is to take it in to get serviced. You should do this according to the servicing schedule in the manual. In general, it’s every six months or 10,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. The servicing will ensure that small problems are found and repaired before they can become big issues.
Warm the Car Up Before Driving Fast
Most cars will do best if you take a little time to warm them up before you take off. If you’re going to drive on the motorway, for example, you should be careful to drive slowly or let the car warm up for a minute in your own driveway. This will help the engine perform better and reduce engine wear and tear.
Check Your Oil
Running out of oil will kill your vehicle faster than anything else and could end up destroying your engine completely. To avoid costly repairs, you should check your oil on a regular basis. This will also ensure you notice any leaks early on and can take steps to repair them before they ruin the vehicle. While you’re checking the oil, go ahead and check the coolant, too.
Drive Smoothly
Did you know that driving irregularly is actually bad for your vehicle? Hard braking and keeping your foot resting on the brake or clutch can end up causing your vehicle harm. You should try to drive at a steady speed, without accelerating and then slowing down constantly.
Taking care of your car will pay off as you continue to drive it. Even if you decide to get a new vehicle, you’ll get more for a car that has been well cared for.
